Melton Dry Anaerobic Digestion Plant Now In Commissioning
Paul Winter Consulting Ltd (PWCL) is delighted to announce that the dry anaerobic digestion (AD) facility in Melton, Hull, has successfully entered the commissioning phase.

Paul Winter Consulting Ltd (PWCL) is delighted to announce that the dry anaerobic digestion (AD) facility in Melton, Hull, has successfully entered the commissioning phase.

This AD plant represents a significant step forward in renewable energy infrastructure and demonstrates the effectiveness of dry AD technology as part of the UK’s transition to Net Zero.

Unlike traditional wet AD systems, which process feedstocks with up to 20% dry matter, dry AD facilities can handle material with 20–40% dry matter content. This provides greater flexibility in feedstock management and maximises energy output from organic waste streams. The Melton facility therefore offers an innovative and efficient solution for both waste treatment and renewable gas production.

Our role included procurement assistance and contract management, coordination and oversight with key partners and contractors, and management of construction and commissioning activities; by aligning technical expertise with real-world knowledge and experience, we ensured the project progressed smoothly and achieved its milestones.

The project required collaboration with several specialist partners such as Thöni who provided the dry AD technology, Wartsila who completed the upgrading system, Thyson Technologies Ltd the grid entry unit and export pipeline, Carbon Electric providing essential M&E expertise and BioDrive completing the balance of plant across the project ensuring all systems and technologies integrated successfully.

PWCL is supporting both the technical commissioning and the final handover to operations process.

Once commissioning is complete, the plant will start contributing renewable energy to the grid and providing a sustainable waste management solution for the region. It stands as a strong example of how process-led facilities must be built around robust construction, engineering integration, and careful project management to deliver reliable, long-term performance.

We are proud to have played a central role in bringing this innovative plant to life and look forward to supporting similar projects that advance renewable energy and sustainability across the UK.
