This week's news in the UK focused on the general election, with all eyes on the party manifestos and what this might mean for EfW. 

The Conservatives pledged to see the completion of their two CCS clusters within the next parliament and to bring an end to incinerators, while Labour committed to the circular economy and a £1 billion investment in carbon capture.

LARAC called on the next government for clarity on the Deposit Return Scheme, a review of fortnightly residual waste collections and more funding for local authorities. 

The Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) has asked the next government to address "critical waste management reforms" following the announcement of a general election on July 4. Read the story here.

Elsewhere this week, a recycled plastic facility has opened in Indonesia, as part of The Prevented Ocean Plastic programme, in partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID). 

This is the seventh recycled plastic facility out of the Programme's proposed 25 by 2025. You can read more here.
