A lot has been going on with the UK’s planned Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) this week
At the start of the week, Welsh first minister and cabinet secretary for climate change and rural affairs Huw Irranca-Davies MS announced Wales’ exit from the joint UK DRS process. According to the first minister, issues “caused by the United Kingdom Internal Market Act 2020” that excludes glass from the scheme were the reason for leaving the joint plans. In reaction to Wales exiting the scheme, The Recycling Association (TRA) and LARAC have both called for the Government to reconsider plans, which the TRA described as a “disaster from start to finish”.

Cory furthers plans to modernise Barking Wharf with a new contract
Recycling and waste management company Cory has awarded a £34 million contract to civil contractor ISC to build a Waste Transfer Station (WTS) on their site in Barking Wharf. As well as providing additional capacity for handling and transporting waste heading to the Riverside 2 facility, the project will bring around £50 million of investment into the area.
