What's new in the world of Energy from Waste this week? We're bringing you a couple of the key stories in our weekly round-up.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) continues its assessment of existing waste policies, this time with a focus on the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).

Defra has confirmed that the launch of the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in the UK will not be brought forward, but instead the new Labour government will work to ensure the October 2027 deadline set out by the Conservatives is met.

Meanwhile in Teeside, delays in finding electricity off-takers means the Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility will not be functional until 2029, 3 years after its initial planned launch.

In an open letter to Ed Miliband, the Security of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Denise McGuckin, Managing Director of Hartlepool Borough Council and Chair of Project Board, shared an update on the project's development stating: "On current timescales, Optimised Final Tenders are expected to be received by the end of this year and a Preferred Tenderer appointed in 2025 – with the facility entering full operation from 2029."
