From vegetable oils to heat networks, here is a round-up of this week's biggest energy from waste news stories.
Encyclis announces the UK's first HVO programme
The EfW company has started using vegetable oils in the UK's first pilot programme to replace diesel in Energy from Waste processes with sustainable hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). Once longer-term testing is completed, Encyclis plans to expand the use of HVO to replace diesel across its fleet of energy recovery facilities.
enfinium has announced plans to begin using carbon measurement technology
The technology will be installed at enfinium’s four operational sites and two currently under construction. The company has said they hope the technology will measure carbon removals once CCS is installed across their sites.
Heat networks in England and Wales have been awarded £2.7 million in funding
The Government has awarded 33 networks across England and Wales funding through their Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES). The funds are set to be used for improvement works and optimisation studies. So far, the scheme has helped improve heating and water supplies for over 41,000 residents connected to 192 heat networks.
On the subject of heat: Veolia has announced plans for a heat network project in London
The project, in partnership with Southwark Council, aims to heat homes in the borough across 11 social housing estates and schools. The 4,700 homes will be heated by Veolia’s South East London Combined Heat and Power Energy Recovery Facility (ERF).
