As former Royal Navy power generation engineer/ manager, Terry was keen to specialise in this sector – thus Astute has a strong focus on all technologies relating to power generation.
Astute has grown from focusing on operations and maintenance roles in EfW and conventional power stations, to spanning all aspects of design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and project management.
Astute has also moved into related industries including waste management, nuclear, renewables, water, and manufacturing.

When it comes to finding staff for a brand-new facility, Astute has the experience and knowledge to deliver. Our 'crewing-up' service has been our flagship service since 2007.
Since then, we have successfully delivered over 25 different projects during the mobilisation phase, ranging from a fully outsourced recruitment package at a large 65MW facility with over 50 staff, to smaller projects supporting to a client’s own efforts. But in each instance, Astute was engaged on an exclusive basis.

Astute was contracted by Urbaser Balfour Beatty to deliver a fully outsourced recruitment service for staff at a new EfW facility in Gloucester in 2018 during the mobilisation phase. This included management roles, all operational shift teams, engineers, maintenance technicians, and others.
We utilised an industry expert to boost the expertise of the selection process, and the whole project was delivered on time and to budget. Astute’s experience in this area, having previously completed many similar projects, helped the client to be in a position to take over the plant with the right people.
