Augean has been successful in securing a 20-year contract to collect and treat up to 20,000 tonnes annually of Air Pollution Control residues (APCr) from the Slough Multifuel Facility which will produce electricity and heat through treating waste-derived fuels made from various sources of municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste, and waste wood, and is scheduled to commence commissioning in 2024.

Augean will arrange the collection and subsequent treatment of APCr at its East Northants Resource Management Facility (ENRMF), which earlier this year, received a Development Consent Order to extend its life to 2046. The APCr will be treated by Augean for recovery and also for disposal.

Since 2012, APCr tonnages have increased by more than 10% per annum, with over 600,000 tonnes generated in the UK in 2022. Annual APCr tonnages are projected to rise to 805,000 by 2027.

Richard Brooke, Commercial Director for Augean commented on the contract:

We went through a competitive procurement exercise to secure this long-term contract and we’re delighted to have been successful to partner Slough Multifuel. Our permitted and resilient operational capacity and capability stands-out, together with our ability to handle a wide APCr specification and other residues, received in tankers and bagged.”

Augean was formed in 2004 and has expanded through a combination of acquisitions and development of assets, the most recent acquisition being in March 2023 when they acquired Future Industrial Services.
