This week has seen the release of political party manifestos, ahead of the UK General Election on July 4. We've summarised the key points within the Labour, Conservative, and Liberal Democrat manifestos. 

The Conservative party has pledged to:

• Ban the building of new waste incinerators, including to revoke permits which have been recently approved where substantial construction has yet to take place
• Develop a UK-wide Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), while working to minimise its impact on businesses and consumers
• Crack down on waste crime and to increase penalties for fly tipping, providing councils with new tools to tackle offenders
• Ensure the construction of the first two carbon capture and storage clusters across North Wales and the North West of England and Teeside and the Humber within the next parliament
• Develop Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) through the industry-backed SAF Mandate

The Labour party has pledged to:

• Invest £1 billion to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture from a new National Wealth Fund
• Invest £500 million to support the manufacturing of green hydrogen
• Reduce waste by moving to a circular economy
• Promote sustainable aviation fuels and secure the aviation industry's future 
• Deliver clean power by 2030

The Liberal Democrat party has pledged to: 

• Aim for complete elimination of non-recyclable single-use plastics within three years by replacing them them with affordable alternatives
• Aim to end plastic waste exports by 2030
• Introduce a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for food and drink bottles and containers and to learn lessons from the Scottish scheme
• Support carbon capture and storage
