The government's "unprecedented" level of funding for Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) in last week's spring budget has been welcomed by the Energy from Waste sector.
The budget recognised the need for this funding to "help meet the government's climate commitments", with the aim of unlocking more private investment in the sector, which in turn will open up more employment opportunities.
The government will announce a shortlist of projects for the initial phase of this CCUS deployment in the coming weeks. Further projects will be able to enter a selection process for Track 1 expansion launching this year, and 2 additional clusters will be selected through a Track 2 process, with details announced shortly.
In the run up to last week's Energy from Waste conference, the EfW Net team spoke to several companies about Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage, which was discussed heavily over the two days. You can find Aker Carbon Capture's article on the importance of CCUS here.
The funding news came alongside the announcement of the government's launch of Great British Nuclear (GBN), with the aim of supporting "new nuclear builds as the government works towards net zero."
