The Energy from Waste Innovation Fund is an award open to undergraduate and postgraduate students whose dissertation focuses on energy from waste or renewable energy technology or engineering.

The winner will receive £1,000 and two runners-up will receive £750 each.

All three will also receive a day of mentoring with the Privilege team, plus access to the business’s contacts and network for a year.

Applications for the award close on 28 February.

Chris Winward, commercial director at Privilege Finance, said: “We’ve recently seen some disheartening statistics with the Office of National Statistics reporting a decline of more than 11,000 people employed in the low carbon and renewable energy economy from 2014 to 2018.

“We don’t believe this to be the full picture and want to promote that there is continued growth and career opportunities in the sector.

“As a business, Privilege Finance has expanded year-on-year for the last five years, both in terms of the amount we are lending to finance new energy from waste projects and the size of our team.

“These people [students] are the future of the industry and as the UK needs to step up its game in terms of responding to the climate crisis, we want to showcase the opportunities for new talent entering the sector.”
