Blue Phoenix Group (‘BPG’), the world’s largest Incinerator Bottom Ash (‘IBA’) processor, is delighted to be a silver sponsor of this year’s Energy from Waste (EfW) Conference.

In today’s world, waste has become a global challenge, as consumption continues to rise and the traditional ‘take, make dispose’, linear economy has led to environmental degradation, resource depletion and excessive waste. A Circular Economy approach offers a sustainable alternative, where materials are kept in use for as long as possible.

For over 25 years Blue Phoenix UK (BPUK) has been processing IBA from EfW facilities and ensuring metal and aggregates are not lost from the economy. In the UK alone, BPUK processes almost 1.5 million tonnes of IBA per annum across its 11 operational facilities. As well as the UK, BPG has operational facilities in Europe, America, and Australia and also provides support to EfW operators globally. BPG’s key focus is taking residues from the waste industry and developing sustainable solutions and encouraging resource reuse.

To support these international operations, the BP Group boasts an in-house Engineering, Procurement and Construction department, with a dedicated engineering team based in the Netherlands. This team are exploring new technologies and processes to enhance our offering to the EfW industry and ensure that resources remain within the Global Circular Economy. The BP Group also has an ambitious sustainability programme working towards Net-Zero Carbon.

The UK business is well established and has a centralised structure consisting of a board of directors all of whom have a wealth of experience. Whilst driving forward innovation and improvements operationally, BP UK has also successfully transferred its regulatory expertise and implemented a ‘Sustainable and Responsible’ regulation in Western Australia and is now adopting a similar approach with the UAE.

BPG’s continued objective is to support the EfW industry, to improve its operations and finding secondary uses for their residue, to guarantee the ongoing success of our industry and playing a critical role in the supply chain, by ensuring resources remain available for use.

The Circular Economy is central to the sector’s ambitions and future. BPG is proud to drive forward progress and innovation in this arena. Processing IBA ensures that there is no waste from waste. Recovering metals and producing a resource from the remaining material, for onward use as an aggregate supports and enhances achieving Environment and Sustainability Goals (‘ESG’s).

Processing IBA prevents valuable resources from going to landfill, preserving them to be reused within the economy. Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA) when processed effectively is suitable for use in many different construction and civil engineering applications, contributing to decarbonisation.

This video showcases a perfect example of Blue Phoenix’s operations delivering Circular Economy benefits locally; Local Authority waste supplied to the EfW generates energy, the residue IBA is processed by Blue Phoenix and used directly in the construction of Local Authority road networks.
