Resource Recovery UK appoints Enfinium CEO Mike Maudsley as new Chair

After two years as Chair of Resource Recovery UK, today Encyclis CEO Owen Michaelson has handed over the role to Mike Maudsley, CEO of Enfinium. Now leading the work of the Energy from Waste operator alliance, Mike Maudsley says the RRUK “stands ready to work with policymakers and others.”
Set up in 2023, RRUK is an alliance between Cory, Encyclis, enfinium and Viridor – four of the UK’s leading EfW operators – with an aim to promote the essential role the sector plays in the UK’s circular economy. Owen Michaelson, who now hands over the baton of RRUK Chair to Mike Maudsley, played a pivotal role in establishing the group. "As a sector that is heavily influenced by policy alignment across waste management, taxation, energy and decarbonisation, we identified a clear need for Energy-from-Waste to adopt a united voice,” he said.
Our sector offers huge potential to contribute to clean growth and accelerate progress on net zero. Progress in these areas depends on policy makers understanding the role which Energy-from-Waste can play in delivering on the UK’s circularity and low carbon ambitions.”
Since its establishment, the group has regularly engaged with the Government and successfully advocated for Landfill Tax to be properly aligned with the real rate of inflation – a change that was announced in the budget last year. “I am satisfied that we have taken significant strides forward in our first two years and I know we will continue to do so under Mike Maudsley’s leadership as our new Chair.”
Mike Maudsley has set out his priorities for the year ahead, which include entry into the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, carbon capture and storage and the Circular Economy Strategy for England. “It’s clear that we are facing into a defining year for our sector,” he said. “RRUK stands ready to work with policymakers and others along the waste value chain to make sure this once-in-a-generation opportunity isn’t lost.”
Both Mike Maudsley and Owen Michaelson are speaking at the 2025 Energy from Waste conference, taking place this Wednesday and Thursday! Limited tickets are still available - which you can find here.
