About Dr Adam Read

Adam is currently External Affairs Director at SUEZ in the UK, a role he has held since September 2017. Prior to this he had successful careers in academia & research, local government and for 15 years consultancy. For the last two years he has been jointly leading the company’s work with UK Government on the development of the new Resources & Waste Strategy and associated consultations, including consistent collections, EPR and DRS. He has also been liaising with other Government departments (BEIS in particular) around the creation of a Resources Sector Deal. He has been in the resources and waste sector for almost 25 years specialising in municipal waste management strategy, recycling, contracts and consultation. He has let contracts for AD, EfW, and advanced conversion technologies, has developed MSc training materials for waste technologies, and currently supports SUEZ when positioning and bidding for residual waste contracts and recycling service provision. He has led numerous value chain workshops this last year looking at EPR reform, governance, funding and performance and the impacts it will have on both municipalities and private sector business. He has also been retained by a number of leading brands to consider potential changes in packaging and materials flows. He is a Fellow of the RSA and RGS and is the CIWM ‘s incoming President, taking up the reigns in November 2020.
