Enfinium has announced it will trial AI technology across four of its UK Energy from Waste facilities, with the aim to improve plant efficiency.

The Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) technology, which will be trialled across Ferrybridge 1 & 2m Kemsley and Parc Adfer, uses pattern recognition technology that detects potential operational and maintenance issues earlier and more efficiently.

It is hoped that the datasets provided by AI technology will be able to predict and prevent equipment failures, optimise maintenance schedules, and improve overall plant availability and reliability.

The new technology will be provided by Cognitive Business, an industry leading company for advanced analytics and AI. Similar technology has been rolled out in other sectors, including wind. The AI datasets help optimise turbine performance and identify when there is a need for maintenance. However, this will be a first for the EfW sector.

Enfinium’s Group Head of Asset Management, Chris Bebbington, has said enfinium wishes to “pioneer trailblazing technology in the EfW sector, adopting forward-thinking and innovative solutions that enable us to improve the performance of our day-to-day operations.”
